The Basics
St. Anthony Family Medicine Residency strongly encourages self-directed and patient-driven adult education. The presence of enthusiastic medical students in the residency provides a spark to this type of education. The St. Anthony Family Medicine residents are anxious to teach medical students but may find themselves learning as much or more than the students. Faculty often find themselves being recharged by unimpeded questions posed by the students.
There are two different organized learning experiences offered at St. Anthony Family Medicine Residency:
Inpatient clerkship teams medical students with the residents on the inpatient family medicine/internal medicine services. The students will assume primary care of patients of the private attendings and work directly with them. The upper level residents will function as supervisors for the interns and medical students.
Outpatient clerkship allows the medical student to experience the residency Family Medicine Center practices. The student will work directly with residents and faculty as they care for the residency's patient population in an ambulatory setting.
Prior to a clerkship being approved, there has be a signed Educational Agreement between your medical school and St. Anthony Hospital. Contact Lupe Ambriz for more details.
